Fly tying intro.

In any action there is a learning curve. You must walk before you run you must hop before you can jump. In my fly fishing adventures I have learned alot of knowledge in a short period of time. It has come time to learn how to tie my own flys. Killing the small fish and brim is killing my wallet. Im buying nymphs and leaders faster then I can fish with them. I also was constantly frustrated when I would learn of an amazing fly that you cant buy. For 50 dollars and a little effort I am tying my own flys. It realy isnt is hard as you would think and it feels very rewarding. However, newbies be ware this hobbie has a funny story about a fly fisherman who's brother had gone into rehab. While there he decided to take up tying flys he later learned that it was just slightly more expensive then his outragous cocain habbit.

This is the A-train, a pattern that I created it does work but I have found other patterns that work better.

These were the three first flys I ever tied. Not bad I think.

And they work!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was a fly from day two, Its a wooly bugger with a hackle body.

This is a replica of the doculator pattern with a hackle coller. I thought it looked buggy and sure enough it killed the fish.

Here are some more from day two believe it or not the three legged white ugly bug killed it has been the most perductive so far.

These are my local fishin holes. They produce but rarly large fish. You can go at dusk and kill them though. I normally catch between 15-40 fish the hour before dusk.

Brazos River Trip July 9th

I just love that flat as glass look.

Me and fellow TFF'ers (texasfishingforum) members Derik d and Trout Bum, went on an excellent trip down the Brazos today. The whole trip actually begins with an all night fishing spree. Me and Derik d decided it would be best to camp near the float area. We decided to stay at a marina on lake whitney, they had a lighted indoor fishing dock. The crappie, sandbass, largemouth bass and pearch kept us busy from our arival at 9PM till 4:30AM when we left them biting. We were using our 9 foot fly rods inside a crampt dock just for fun. We woke up 2 hours later and cought coffe and burritos as well as the morning bite. Then it was off to the Brazos where we would meet our third new friend and have a full 8 hour day float trip. Almost as soon as we hit the water Trout Bum got into a nice smallie that later did an easy release for us, I knew it would be a great day. All day long the action was there in 4 inches or four feet of water, again the sandies and spots and largemouth bass were eager to fight us. The pearch gar and catfish came out for some action as well. All on the fly.

One of the huge gills that the brazos holds. This one was cought by Trout Bum himself.

Here is Derik d in his pontoon boat, I like the design and for the price how could you argue. As versital as a yak at half the price.

Here is one of my larger bass on the fly for the day. Their pure numbers made it hard to get a presentation to a nice fish long enough for him to get interested.

Another bass he's there somewhere.

So in the last 24 hours
18 on the water
2 sleeping
4 driving

What a great vacation!!!

I would say im officially hooked.
