I hit the water with my long time friend and fishing buddy Joseph. We were using dead shad and live shad for bait. We used a cork setup in 3-4 feet and a carolina rig as well as a leader riged for the bait aboout 10 inches above the weight. We fished the dam and several coves and back sides of points concentrating on reeds and structure from 7:00PM till 2:30AM
Fishing was slow and we only netted about 7 cats and one red fish. Next time I will concentrate on 10-15 feet of water and only use the carolina setups. They seem to work best.

A thing of beauty
The Frio river

A shot of the beautiful river.
All I have to say about this trip is O.M.G. I was lucky enough to fish on private property that is very secluded and never fished. This trip was probobly one of the best trips ever for me. I could wade infront of the fish and drop my fly in there face and i would hook up. These fish just dont know fear. Most everything was on the down side of the spawn and hungry. Saturday we must have cought 150 fish or more. The size wasnt the impressive part it was the pure numbers. On this trip there was some ultra light 2lb test fishing. For flys I used crystal buggers, bitch creek nymphs, gold ribbed hare's ears and prince nymphs. I also had some luck with a small sculpin. All the flys were good at this area though.
7-8 Rio grande cichlids that were bigger then a dinner plate
1 Catfish over 10lbs and 4-5 over 3 lbs
2 Bass over 3 lbs
15 Panfish bigger then my hand.
These fish were the prizes but the fact that we couldnt keep our hooks baited was the fun part.

One of the larger rio grande cichlids.

Come on, come to poppa.

Nice cat on ultra light tackle

i Just love these action shots.
The begining the beautiful San Marcos River

I am starting this blog as a way to keep track of my fishing trips. A way to pass on info and to pass on the attraction fishing can have. This picture was taken on a secluded part of the San Marcos river. I feel that it shows everything i apreciate in fly fishing. This trip was with fellow flynatic Shannon A.K.A. Texasflycaster. He was amazed at my speddy learning process and he showed my a few new things that are going to help me catch mroe fish later.
Thanx, again Shannon
